JOB DESCRIPTIONS
Summer Staff Counselor
A summer staff member works closely with and is under the supervision of the full-time staff in the operation of Camp Como.
First and foremost, we are a Christian camp, and all staff, including summer staff, are to represent Jesus Christ in their actions and lifestyles. Staff are required to attend Sunday morning worship at a local Church, a weekly staff bible study, and, unless assigned duties prevent, the camper worship services.
To be a counselor is to do all there is to do at camp. They have the widest variety of jobs and constant changes in activities, as one of their jobs is to fill in for the other summer staff on their days off. When filling in a position, your supervisor for the day will be the supervisor of that area.
Usually, Summer staff will help lead the campers in their daily activities, such as: High ropes, zipline, giant swing, archery tag, laser tag, arts and crafts, etc. Staff will also be rotated through assigned times to help with the snack shack, camp store, and meal assistance.
They will also throughout the day clean up and make sure the camp is clean and safe for all campers. Between groups, all of the staff will thoroughly clean the entire camp to prepare for the next group.
Most days, the counselors have meal preparation duties, serve as adventure program facilitators, and perform various maintenance tasks. They also take turns being “on call” to help with evening events.
Staff will get at least 24 hours of uninterrupted time off each week. Usually, this is scheduled a week ahead of time, and usually on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Then, each day, the staff will have some downtime that will be assigned depending on the assigned daily activities.
While not their main duties, staff will at times help with all of the following when needed:
