Director of Facilities at Camp Como
This is a general overview of responsibilities and desired qualities and not a description of day-to-day
activities.
People on the staff at Colorado Christian Service Camp Inc., D.B.A. Camp Como are driven by a call to serve, and
the ministry’s impact is the motivator for service. All things point to ministry, and staff members are encouraged to
contribute to the impact of the ministry regardless of their actual formal job description.
This is a hands-on job that requires some thinking and planning to keep up with an organization that looks to grow
in our impact on this world for Jesus Christ. We want to continue to be a first-class organization and look to
constantly improve the camp to reach our goal.
The Facility Director should be knowledgeable in all areas of maintenance that are applicable in the camp
environment. The Facility Director must be available to work long hours and respond to potential
emergency situations seven days a week while the camp and conferences are in session, and guests are
on grounds. Within the framework of Camp Como, Inc. policy, procedures, program, budget, and specific
resolutions with the Executive Director, the Facility Director directs the building and grounds maintenance and
personnel to accomplish the highest possible standards of maintenance, cleanliness, and effective operation,
including equipment maintenance, house-keeping in public areas for summer camp season, supplies, vehicles,
facilities, property inventories and records, program assistance, and facility department employee supervision.
Qualifications:
1. Possess a deep love for youth and a desire to work in a ministry for them.
2. Strong personal commitment to Jesus Christ and complete acceptance of Christian Camps and
Conferences Mission Statement.
3. Experience and training in areas related to building and grounds maintenance to include, carpentry, electrical,
plumbing, and general maintenance.
4. Be a minimum of 25 years of age, a Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equal years of experience.
5. Possess a valid driver’s license and demonstrate proven excellent driving ability.
6. Knowledge of equipment suppliers pertinent to routine camp maintenance.
7. Strong organizational skills with a proven track record of prioritizing tasks effectively with established deadlines.
8. Must be a self-starter with a strong sense of initiative, capable of managing priorities and delivering results
without constant oversight.
9. Ability to maintain accurate records and inventories and build project costs.
10. The ability to communicate and develop working relationships with other staff members and business associates.
11. Initiative, self-motivation, resourcefulness and creativity.
12. Demonstrates strong communication skills, resourcefulness, and creativity in identifying opportunities, solving
complex problems, and delivering innovative solutions that drive organizational success.
Reports to:
Executive Director
General Responsibilities:
1. Regularly provide updates to the Executive Director, clearly communicating camp needs, progress, and
developments to support informed decision-making and organizational alignment.
2. Oversee the operation of all mechanical, electrical and plumbing equipment.
3. Responsible for maintenance improvements of all facilities.
4. Primary person in camp responsible for keeping all camp vehicles in safe and proper working condition.
5. The Facility Director will establish a system of preventive maintenance for the equipment.
6. Direct and assume responsibilities for the acquisition, control and dispensing of supplies and materials required to
carry out a routine program of camp maintenance.
7. Maintain an ordering and accounting system for all supplies.
8. Guides and directs the repairing of all equipment necessary for camp.
9. Supervise and mentor the facility staff, both seasonal and full-time.
Specific Responsibilities:
1. Organize and implement the total camp maintenance program within the framework of the
combined camp structure.
2. Ensure proper adherence of the camp to all Federal, State, and Local rules and regulations, and according to
CCCA regulations in non-program areas.
3. Complete and submit all requisitions and requests from the camp for needed services, supplies, equipment, and
facilities.
4. Initiate all requests and make arrangements for maintenance functions.
5. Prepare and submit necessary purchase orders, requisitions, and requests for service to the proper camp staff
department heads.
6. Consult with the Executive Director on all matters dealing with maintenance needs and programs.
7. Set the spiritual tone for maintenance staff.
8. Work closely with the full-time and summer staff in coordinating all areas of the camp program with the
maintenance department.
9. Work closely with the other full-time staff in coordinating all areas of the retreat ministry with the maintenance
department. This activity runs from August to May.
10. Compare and evaluate the maintenance program’s results with those of other camps and conference centers. With
the executive director’s approval, revise the program when necessary, in accordance with current techniques and
philosophies.
Other Information:
1. Meals are provided whenever the camp kitchen is cooking for a group. Family members may join for one meal
per day if staff do not live on site, and for all meals if they live on site.
2. A camp vehicle will be provided for use only for camp-related activities.
3. Vacation cannot be used from May to mid-August.
4. Holiday time during May to mid-August will be converted to comp time if groups are on site on those days.
